Out of 2231 apartments in Bansko owned by British people, only 465 are registered for tourist activity. This became clear during a meeting held in Bansko between the British ambassador to Bulgaria Steve Williams, the vice-consul Denise Baker and the mayor of Bansko Alexander Kravarov.
The main topic of discussion were the problems that occur between the property agencies and the municipality. Many brokers speculate with the investment intentions of the municipality. They mislead the investors by announcing that an airport, a golf course, etc. will be built at a particular place. Moreover, very often they don't clarify the procedure for preparing the sites for exploitation to the British. The site must have the so-called "Act 16", many of the foreigners however receive "Act 14" instead. The grassing, water sewage and electricity network at the sites are also an object of speculations - the buyers are lead to believe these are all responsibilities of the municipality, whereas in reality they are responsibilities of the investors. The best thing the buyers can do is first consult a lawyer who can give them the most accurate information.
